Dear members and guests,
As is usually the case in North Carolina the spring has produced wild fluctuations in the weather. The second wettest February on record has been followed by an unusually dry April and May. Not only has it been dry but we have alternated between lows in the 30’s and highs in the 90’s. This has made it difficult on the Bermuda to go into full growth mode. The Bermuda loves temperatures in the 80’s and lows in the 60’s. Luckily that is what is forecast in the coming weeks. To take advantage of the better weather the team will be fertilizing the entire course. This will help the overall quality of the turf in the summer.
If you’re going to fertilize a course, it’s good to have the tools to maintain it. We’d like to announce the addition of some new equipment to our fleet. Two reconditioned greens mowers, verticutting reels and a new tractor loader/ backhoe will help the team to provide the best conditions possible. Look for the shiny new equipment at work as you enjoy your next round. As you can see from the photos below, the guys are proud of it.
Finally, you probably have noticed all the work going on at the short game area. The team is installing a new 6000 sq ft putting green. This larger area will hold up better to winter traffic that the current putting green suffered this year. The green beside the bunker will return to being a chipping green. Beacon ridge is poised to have a wonderful summer and we look forward to the work that makes you proud of the course.
Thank you,
Mike Rose, Golf course Superintendent
